Employer Sponsored Visas in Australia
Australia's employer-sponsored visa program allows Australian businesses to address genuine skills shortages by sponsoring qualified overseas workers for positions that cannot be filled locally. Whether you are an employer seeking to bring a specific worker to Australia, or an overseas professional who has received a sponsorship offer, A2B Visa & Education Services provides MARA-registered guidance for the entire employer sponsorship process — from business sponsorship approval through to the grant of a temporary or permanent work visa.
Key Employer Sponsored Visa Subclasses
- Subclass 482 — Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa: Allows approved businesses to sponsor skilled overseas workers for up to 2 years (or 4 years in some cases). Available in two streams: Short-term (STSOL occupations) and Medium-term (MLTSSL occupations, leading to permanent residency).
- Subclass 494 — Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional): A 5-year temporary visa for regional employers to sponsor workers. Leads to permanent residency via Subclass 191 after 3 years.
- Subclass 186 — Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) — Permanent: A permanent visa through the Direct Entry stream (requires skills assessment and at least 3 years of work experience) or the Temporary Residence Transition stream (for TSS holders with 3 years of employment with the nominating employer).
- Subclass 187 — Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS): Now closed to new applicants, but existing applications are still being processed.
For Employers
- You must be approved as a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS) — a status that is valid for 5 years and allows multiple nominations.
- A Labour Market Testing (LMT) requirement applies in most cases — demonstrating you were unable to fill the position with an Australian worker.
- You must pay the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy at the time of nomination.
- The sponsored worker must be paid at least the market salary rate for the nominated occupation.
Our Process
We manage the full sponsorship lifecycle: Standard Business Sponsor approval, nomination preparation (including LMT evidence and SAF levy calculation), and individual visa application for the sponsored worker and their dependants. We keep employers informed of their ongoing sponsorship obligations and help plan long-term pathways to permanent residence for valued employees.
