Migration help for Sydney clients

If you are based in Sydney or anywhere in New South Wales, you do not need to be in the same city as your migration agent. Australian immigration law is federal — applications are lodged through the Department of Home Affairs ImmiAccount portal regardless of where you and your agent are located.

What matters is that your agent is registered with MARA, has experience with the visa subclass that suits your situation, and gives you a clear written quote.

Visa pathways for Sydney and NSW

Sydney is the most populous city in Australia and a major destination for migrants. Common pathways for Sydney-based clients include:

General Skilled Migration

  • Subclass 189 Skilled Independent — points-tested permanent residence with no sponsor.
  • Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated — NSW Government nomination adds 5 points and unlocks state-specific occupations.
  • Note: Sydney is not a designated regional area, so the 491 requires living and working in regional NSW (e.g. Newcastle, Wollongong or further).

Employer-sponsored visas

Sydney has the densest concentration of accredited sponsor businesses in Australia. The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) are commonly used. We help both employers and applicants navigate sponsorship.

Partner and family visas

Onshore subclass 820/801 and offshore subclass 309/100 partner visas are processed federally and require no Sydney-specific arrangements beyond document witnessing and identification.

Student visas

Sydney is home to several universities and a large international student population. The subclass 500 rules apply equally regardless of which Australian city you study in — but financial capacity benchmarks and OSHC selection are critical for a clean lodgement.
